At least sustainable to date

Difference between TGT and THT date?

TGT stands for To use until And Tht stands for Best before. With a THT date, the producer guarantees the quality of the product until the date mentioned, but even after that you can still consume it well. You can easily determine whether a product is still suitable for consumption by looking, smelling or tasting. Dry food such as nuts and chocolate, "if correct" are edible even for months after exceeding the THT date. A TGT date is usually only used for products that are perishable. Foodstuffs with this designation include cakes, meat or vegetables.

For more information about the THT date you can visit the website of the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority.

Selling products with an elapsed Tht date

According to the NVWA, it is permitted to sell or use products with an elapsed if date in the preparation of foodstuffs. It is not required by law that exceeding the THT date is stated during the sale. It is also not mandatory to sell the product with a discount.

Ordinary supermarkets often do not want to sell products that have reached the THT date because of their image and a large part of these products is unfortunately thrown away. If we have the least doubts about the quality of a product, we will of course let this test.
